Rosy Notes (Perfumery Base)
Rose Centifolia LMO® - Perfumery Base -
Ingredients for Rosy Notes:
1. Rose Absolute:
- Source: Extracted from the petals of Rosa damascena (Damask Rose) or Rosa centifolia (Cabbage Rose).
- Description: Rich, deep, and intense rosy aroma with hints of honey, spice, and green undertones.
2. Rose Otto (Rose Essential Oil):
- Source: Steam distilled from the petals of Rosa damascena or Rosa centifolia.
- Description: Fresh, light, and pure rosy scent with a more delicate and airy quality compared to rose absolute.
How Rosy Notes Are Made:
1. Steam Distillation:
- Process: Petals of roses are distilled with steam to produce rose essential oil (rose otto). This method captures the lighter, more volatile aromatic compounds.
- Result: Rose otto is prized for its purity and delicate aroma.
2. Solvent Extraction:
- Process: Petals are treated with solvents like hexane to produce rose concrete. The concrete is then further processed to obtain rose absolute.
- Result: Rose absolute is highly concentrated and rich, capturing the full complexity of the rose's aroma.
3. CO2 Extraction:
- Process: Supercritical CO2 is used to extract the aromatic compounds from rose petals.
- Result: Produces a high-quality extract with a true-to-nature rose scent, similar to rose absolute but with fewer impurities.
Types of Roses Used in Perfumery:
1. Rosa damascena (Damask Rose):
- Description: Known for its rich, deep, and complex aroma with spicy, honeyed, and slightly fruity nuances.
- Origin: Primarily grown in Bulgaria (Rose Valley), Turkey, and Iran.
2. Rosa centifolia (Cabbage Rose):
- Description: Offers a lighter, fresher, and more honeyed rosy scent with a slightly green and peppery undertone.
- Origin: Mainly cultivated in Grasse, France, and Morocco.
Use in Perfumery:
1. Heart Notes:
- Characteristics: Rose notes are often used as heart notes in perfumes, providing a rich, floral core that unfolds after the top notes dissipate.
- Blending: They blend well with other floral notes (like jasmine and violet), spicy notes (like clove and cinnamon), woody notes (like sandalwood and cedarwood), and citrus notes (like bergamot and lemon).
2. Signature Scents:
- Perfumers: Renowned perfumers often use rose notes as a signature element in their creations, crafting unique and memorable fragrances that highlight the rose's versatility.
Rose notes in perfumery are derived from various methods, including steam distillation, solvent extraction, and CO2 extraction, using different species of roses like Damask Rose and Cabbage Rose. These notes are central to many iconic perfumes, valued for their richness, complexity, and versatility.
Rose notes are among the most cherished and versatile in perfumery, known for their rich, complex, and multifaceted aroma. Roses can evoke feelings of romance, elegance, and luxury.
